Earning like a Prof: Academic rank wage premia in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia

Abstract The article attempts to estimate the size of wage premia fetched by ranked academics on academic market in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia. We employed a large (anonymized) data set contracts and wages employees medium-sized regional public university Labem. used OLS regression various specifications determine all educational levels (mainly full professors over associate professors/ docents professors/docents assistant professors/PhDs) while controlling for many attributes (of or contracts) possibly affecting levels. local context regarding topic this is discussed as well. results generally confirm intuition show clear pattern increasing with ranks. Focusing predominantly ranks, monthly premium (docents) PhDs seems be somewhere between 5 6 thousand CZK (185 220 EUR), an average around 4 (150 EUR). latter premium, however, exhibits systematic variation across different schools within university: some it insignificant (around 0), others rather averages 8 (300
